Two Lovers

The songs sung by singing robins is luxury

Within the depths of countless souls,

Not a missed note or note off key;

If one listens—

Uninhibited,

Sweet sounds,

Fragrant like jasmine,

On a warm summer day;

Songs softer than last night’s howling wind,

Songs stronger than the splashing brook

Stroking stones and rocks along its fashioned bed;

They sing songs to summer’s new moon;

And two lovers meant to be alone,

Kiss beside their childhood pond,

Still waters smooth as blue glass,

Reflecting their love;

Singing robins perched high on wires slung across the sky,

Perched upon ancient knotted trees bearing long branches,

Perched upon the newly grown twigs of cherry trees,

Leaves of green and robins sing;

Sweet music.

Time’s Abyss

Your unwavering stance

Occupied a barren region,

Lingering there like a withering flower

Before you ultimately departed;

I suffered beforehand –

Missing our laughs, and talks,

And trips to new places –

I endured your scarcity;

I mourn we loss the time

To conquer our declining bonds,

Previous to your leaving, and you

Finding a new dwelling place,

Somewhere I cannot visit – presently;

The ever unfathomable crevice

Between us –

Befalls a mystery to me,

I meditate upon the why.

What threw us into that chasm?

Our not holding each other dear,

Dropping us into that never ending abyss –

I assumed it would pass with the rain,

Then we would have another day,

Another laugh, another talk, one more hug.

It never came to pass –

With great sadness –

Tears grasp around my throat, my mind, my heart.

I shake my head and I say, “Not”.

It is a battle I fight each night,

How I wish it naught!!

My peace I fight to keep;

And yet, I cry every night.

Consent

Love ought to exist

Uncomplicated, without doubt,

Sanctioned;

Do not restrain love

From your heart,

Consent

To allow the absence of anguish,

Think no more of blame;

Further insight will transpire gain,

Assign desire to accomplish the same,

Or discover yourself

Empty and drained.

Across the Times

There was a king adorned with jewels,

Young and handsome, an age of merely thirteen;

He walked the garden yards

And singled out red rose’s blooms,

Not the yellow, pink or white,

Only red roses, and only the blooms;

He played with trick kites, flying helicopters, and

Wooden blocks—building castles, islands, and towers in the sky;

He rode his bike, steering the wheels, staying in the boundaries,

Every day, up and down, up and down the pebbled paths

And slightly rolling hills;

Tick tock, tick tock goes the clock,

But for him—he kept no time;

Sitting quiet, sitting still, he reads his verse,

One line, the next line, one line at a time,

And with the final word read, he wonders a great deal—

About being born, about how to live,

And death that comes across the times;

An elegant sunset, and changing of the light,

He runs across the lawn for his telescope,

And maybe, just maybe, he might eat a little cantaloupe;

Feet in flight, and much to his delight,

A wish to greet the evening stars came true,

He gazes into the nighttime sky,

He does not even question as to why—

Whoosh—his day did disappear,

And time did fly.

A Poet’s Pen

A midsummer night

in my sentiment my muse arose

depositing poetry at task,

with way of pen—

my contemplation obtaining shape,

my face against the wind,

my essence engaging in words realigning,

together with stillness of reason

and spirit unconfined,

mysterious language assembling,

selected in the same way as a trusted friend,

with my muse, I write.

My Garden

I feel the need
to grow something living;
I chose tomatoes, green beans,
parsley and dill,
three types of peppers,
basil, onions, and
two types of squash,
and a bunch of kale.
I bought the best dirt,
and bright colored windsocks,
and hung from the trees
many wind chimes for me.
I love the sounds of all the birds
singing though-out the day,
but I hope to keep them from feasting
on my soon ripening treats.
Watching them grow
brings me great joy,
I am keeping my fingers crossed
that they don’t die,
due to birds, pests,
or dried up soil;
Wish me luck!!
